Foxfield Races and Kid Pan Alley children's songwriting project celebrate the start of "Kid Pan Alley Week" in Charlottesville with I Used to Know the Names of All the Stars -- an evening of music, dancing, songwriting, space travel, and fun for the whole family under the stars at Foxfield.
You’re in for a great night of music featuring the Kid Pan Alley Band, Paul Reisler, Terri Allard, and the very-danceable E3 (Andy Waldeck, Nate Brown, and Steve Van Dam with special guest John D’earth).
We’ll explore the wonders of space with the Science Museum of Virginia’s Space Travel exhibit. Climb aboard Space Traveler to experience 20 hands-on exhibits. Venture into the StarLab planetarium to explore the cosmos.
There will be songwriting workshops, face painting, and 2 moon bounces for children big and small. Relax with a glass of wine from Siips Wine and Champagne Bar or a locally brewed beer from Blue Mountain Brewery, while dining on "crazy good" Belmont BBQ. Make your bids on auction items including private songwriting lessons, original artwork created by local students for the Kid Pan Alley Charlottesville CD, I Used to Know the Names of All the Stars", or other collectibles.

About the band E3
E3, featuring members of the band Everything, is a uniquely entertaining band that is creating a buzz at every event they play-- from private parties to big stage blowouts. And yes, their song "Who Got the Hooch" was a top 10 radio hit and showcased in Adam Sandler's movie "Waterboy".
Putting a new spin on cover bands, E3 plays electrifying versions of the songs you know and love. From dinner and drinks to a packed dance floor, these amazing musicians take care of all your musical needs with stellar 3 part harmonies, unstoppable grooves, and funky saxophone riffs. Their extensive song catalog covers it all; classic R&B, rock, reggae, funk, 80s, 90s, and even today's chart toppers - from Louis Armstrong to Led Zeppelin, from Johnny Cash to The Cure to Coolio. But E3 doesn't stop there. They then customize the style of each song, tailoring the music to fit the vibe of their audience.
E3 is a band of world class entertainers who have played thousands of shows around the globe, sharing stages with the biggest names in the biz. Even more important, they simply love to play music together and entertain the heck out of any crowd. They have lived the pop star life-- stadium shows, record deals, autographs, etc., and they bring that energy, charisma and showmanship to each performance.

Kid Pan Alley
Kid Pan Alley started with a brilliant, yet obvious discovery—kids make the greatest song co-writers. Kid Pan Alley is a national children’s songwriting project developed by Trapezoid’s Paul Reisler in which children are inspired to be creators of their own music and not just consumers of popular culture. To date, we’ve written more than 1,500 songs with some 25,000 children from Hawaii to Virginia.
Long-term in-school residencies also may include a CD of some of the songs performed by professional musicians in that community. In 2008, Kid Pan Alley’s Paul Reisler and Terri Allard spent 8 weeks in elementary schools in the greater Charlottesville, VA area writing 80 songs with more than 1800 children. Our new Kid Pan Alley Charlottesville album,
I Used To Know The Names Of All The Stars, features some of those songs, recorded by Sissy Spacek, Corey Harris, John McCutcheon, David Lowery and Cracker, Jesse Winchester, Sparky’s Flaw and many other great artists who call Charlottesville home.
Past CD projects feature world-renowned artists including Delbert McClinton, Amy Grant, Kix Brooks, Raul Malo, Suzy Bogguss, the Nashville Chamber Orchestra and many others performing the songs co-written with Nashville-area kids.
Kid Pan Alley has won Parents’ Choice and NAPPA Gold awards, 7 ASCAP Foundation awards and a Grammy nomination. www.kidpanalley.org.
KID PAN ALLEY'S MISSION:
Kid Pan Alley uses the group songwriting process to teach children to express their creativity. Kid Pan Alley’s songwriting residencies and character development assemblies also:
-Promote self-awareness and self-confidence by attaching value to the students’ creative impulses;
-Help children experience creative expression as a means of embracing diversity, teamwork, and collaboration;
-Support creativity as a prime skill to all critical thinking and problem-solving;
-Help children learn and increase their ability to learn. Kid Pan Alley addresses national learning standards in the areas of creativity, music, English, performance, and connects to other areas of learning including History, Civics, Science, and Health. We think this is one of the most important outcomes of our program.
-Promote community awareness of the arts as essential elements of instruction in children’s lives
-Foster collaboration between students, teachers, administrators, artists, and the community.
-Teach respect for intellectual property. Children who have written their own songs have a first-hand understanding of the negative effects of “pirating” on creators.
